Kindness, you see, is what makes us stand tall
Whether born in a Palace, or a house that's too small...
Written by Rachel Lyon with illustrations by Vanina Starkoff, The Cautionary Tale of The Childe of Hale is a rhyming children's picture book based on the life of John Middleton, a real-life giant who lived near Liverpool in the late 16th/early 17th Century. Known as the Childe of Hale, he was said to be so tall that he used to sleep with his feet dangling through the windows of his small cottage. His grave (including original epitaph which gives his height as 9ft 3 inches) - and cottage - can still be seen in Hale Village.
Published by Maverick Arts, The Cautionary Tale of The Childe of Hale was published in March 2013 and is available online (through retailers inlcuding Amazon, Waterstones, WH Smiths, Sainsburys etc) or through all good bookshops, RRP £6.99 (softback) and £10.99 (hardback).
